Mutual Legal Assistance (MLA)
Who can use this service
This service is for overseas authorities who want to request MLA from
England, Wales or Northern Ireland or for UK authorities who want to request
MLA from another country.
These requests must come from a competent authority. For example, a court
that has criminal jurisdiction, a prosecuting authority or another authority
that is legally permitted to make a request.
Who cannot use this service
You cannot use this service if you are seeking assistance from Scotland only
- these requests must be sent to the Crown Office

Your request is about tax and fiscal customs matters only - these must be
sent to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)
(see our MLA guidance for more information)

You are not a competent authority that is legally permitted to make a
request.
Before you start

You should have all the necessary information to consider and carry out
your request ready for submission. You can find details on what we need

You must provide English versions of all letters of request and other
supporting documents.

EU member states and the UK must use these forms to submit requests to
eachother:
- For MLA, the standard form for requests for mutual assistance

For Non-EU Member States and the UK must provide your formal international
Letter of Request (LOR) and any relevant translations and any additional
materials, however there is no legal requirement to provide this on a
standard template.
Extradition
This service is for
Category 2 territories ,
countries or territories that don't have an extradition agreement with the
UK or UK authorities
who want to extradite a person to the UK and are permitted to make a
request. The
Gov.uk page confirms which category your country or territory is in

Who can't use this service
You can't use this service if you are in a
category 1 territory (EU country) . Category 1 territories must contact the National Crime Agency (NCA) to
request an extradition.
Before you start
To submit your extradition request, you'll need to provide:
- The details of the authority making the request
- Details of the person you want to extradite
- Details of their offence(s)

The section or penal code in your country or territory that relates to
their offence(s)
- A valid arrest warrant, dated and signed by a judge
- An extradition request document in English

An extradition request document in its original language (if applicable)

You can also include biometric data (for example fingerprints, travel
documents or other photo identification)
